Mammoth FUCKING Mammoth !!!

Mammoth Mammoth @ the Espy, Sat 12-09-09

Mammoth Mammoth Album launch @ the Espy, St Kilda.
Saturday 12th September 2009.
Supporting Electric Mary.

I was running late, later than usual. Watched the Pies rip it over Adelaide, 83 to 78. Anthony just got the winning goal in time before the final siren. Close call, but not as close as some of the tramps will have tonight struttin it pretty down Fitzroy Street. I powered down hoping not to miss too much of Mammoth. There was uniformed everywhere and the odd patting down and nervous search. The stench of kebabs enough to kill a sober man and not quite enough to quash the hunger of one too far gone. Hen's night squeals filled the air and hoons revved their ol' Kingwood's as they passed with wolf whistles of delight and one of their own holding up a beer while lying across the bonnet, pin-up style. Mayhem, what a beautiful sight.

26° just before midnight, the breeze felt like sticking your head in a fan forced oven. Espy is cranking and straight into the Gershwin Room. Mammoth Mammoth hit the stage at 11:30pm and I got the fuck in there at about 11:50. Missed a few but they were killin' it as I walked in.

The new full-length release is killer, but it just can't translate to the beast that is Mammoth live. Truly fuckin MAMMOTH! Loud, brutal, beat you round the back of ya head rawk'n'roll. The rawness live, the sweat, the head banging and throwing your body onto the stage just isn't the same through a set of household speakers. The bleeding of the ears, the megaphone and crazed running amok amongst the punters... Who can forget the Mammoth dancers... 3 guys bustin' a move up on stage, dressed in their Mammoth hoodies all breakin' in the name of rock!

"BIGGER THAN JESUS. LOUDER THAN HELL!". Live by it.

Standout's on the new CD, Engulfed By Flames and a killer version of Kyuss' Green Machine.

Electric Mary, it seems most were there to see them, or knew them atleast as singer Rusty, stuck his mic out during the one chorus and they knew it word for word. Why the hell hadn't I seen them before? The ferocity of metal all delivered by a singer that looks like a mix of Meatloaf and Tex Perkins (who coincidently I am sure I walked past on the way there...) and hands it out like he's been doing this way before throwin' the horns was even invented! Attitude, monumental riffs that kill and a drummer to beat you senseless (nice Cheap Thrills t-shirt), from last night these guys obviously already have quite obsessive fans. I was met by one grinning crazily from ear to ear at the bar mid set where he announced to me "Welcome to Electric Mary".

The mighty MAMMOTH !!!
